I almost spat out my drink when I saw that McCain claimed family separation is "contrary to the principles our country was founded on."

I mean. I guess, yeah, contrary to the principles. But remember slavery? Um yeah family separation was kinda central to that. I dunno. I'm just tired of living in the United States of Amnesia. The same so-called liberals who were lately giving Dubya a tonguebath (one of the most sickening things I've seen in my life, up there with his presidency) are freaking out over how terrible ICE is. He started it. Obama continued it. I'm glad people are waking up a tad, but if they think this is only a Trump problem, they'll go right back to somnolence once Trump's gone, and things will keep getting worse.

It seems that the correct measure of figuring out how dangerous a thing is is to really, truly imagine what might happen if your ideological opposite were able to gain control of it. There are too many people focusing on the person at the levers without taking the next step to determine that the levers themselves are dangerous and need to be stopped.

That is exactly it. It's also why I'm thoroughly opposed to hate speech laws and am aghast that there are still people talking about wanting them in the U.S. Republicans control everything! They'd say it was "hate speech" to talk about birth control.

But we live in a country where the "liberal" (pfft) media is clutching its pearls over having detente with North Korea, and Democrats introduced a bill to prevent us from stopping war games on the North Korean border. South Koreans want peace? So what? Russia has a tiny border with North Korea zomg must continue dangerous and terrible imperialistic policy. Under a dangerous and terrible authoritarian president. Because that makes sense.
