Chapter 7 opens with Anita kissing Thea. She says Thea feeds at her mouth and talks about tasting her. It's like two milkshakes making out. I do not find this appealing. At least Thea tastes salty this time.

So someone whom I think (hope) must not have actually read the Anita Blake books decided to defend them: http://lkh-lashouts.livejournal.com/592503.html. I love the accusation of prudishness especially. It amuses me. Now, I consider "prude" to be one of the worst insults there is because I think it's one of the worst things to be, but the accusation is so incredibly wrong, it gives me the giggles.

Danse Macabre does too, though for different reasons. As offensive as LKH's books are, the goofily terrible and terribly goofy way they're written is almost a saving grace. It makes me sometimes suspect LKH is trolling us all. Consider the first paragraph of Chapter 6, during which Thea is forcing a kiss on Anita:

Chapter four ends pretty well: "We were so screwed without Jean-Claude and Asher." It's an amusing line that tells the reader Anita, Micah, and Nathaniel aren't good at diplomacy, witty banter, and "sly sedcution [sic]". It also sets up the idea that there's going to be conflict that will be difficult for the Three Stooges to resolve. Will this lead to something interesting?

The Three Stooges and Graham go inside, where another bodyguard, Clay, is looking worried. Graham deploys his "mantle of bodyguardness." And there's this:

Clay shook his head. "Jean-Claude isn't with you?" His tone of voice made it a half question. (31)

Why is that only a half question? It sounds like a complete question to me.

Chapter 3 starts at the "Circus of the Damned" (yes really), the strip club Jean-Claude owns where his party will be taking place. We learn, in depth, that Nathaniel helped Anita with her eyeshadow.  We also learn Anita's carrying a gun and a knife, and wearing a black top and skirt. She's afraid someone is going to try something with her tonight because she's "the Executioner".

Danse Macabre is a terrible book, but so far it's terrible in enough entertaining ways to be actually fun to read. It's a totally different experience from slogging through Twilight.

LKH is a real writer )

The intelligent, brave, and beautiful Ronnie, who is my best friend ever, has just revealed to two of Anita's boytoys that Anita might be pregnant. Normally I would of course not condone revealing that someone else might be pregnant. But Anita has been treating Ronnie in such an appalling manner, and generally being such a jerk, I'm thrilled with it. Now, on to chapter 2.

It's like good writing, if it weren't bad writing )
