While that essay is a worthwhile read and I appreciate you linking it, the subject line "Jenny Trout is my spirit animal" seems appropriative of the Native concept of animal spirit guides.

... okay. You know all "Native Americans" didn't have a concept of animal spirit guides, right? That's like saying "European wearing of kilts." And that the best way to refer to American Indian tribes (which, last I knew, a few years ago, the preferred term was "Indian" and not "Native American") is by their specific tribal names? And that very many cultures besides those had and have concepts of animal spirit guides? And that I'm descended from at least one of them, and I'd bet anything you are too?
