Currently grouchy over the fact that the easiest way to succeed is to take other people's interesting ideas, dilute them until they're mediocre at best, and present them as one's own.
Out of curiosity, and because I've been out of touch, is there something specific you're talking about? Or is it this general wave of remakes and reboots and continuations we've been seeing while everyone keeps trying to find a good way to monetize fanfiction?
There are some specific things that I can't say anything about without getting into deep shit.
But yeah, the endless reboots are part of it. 50 Shades, which was a total ripoff of something far superior, and whose fans have apparently never heard of erotica before. Twilight, whose fans had apparently never heard of the romance genre before, since most seemed to think a book focusing on a romantic relationship was new. Cassandra Claire. NOT fanfic inherently, but fanfic authors ripping off other fanfic authors blatantly and not giving credit. Hollywood in its entirely.
Hell, current culture in its entirety. Everything's felt stagnant for a very long time, and I think it's because subpar stuff and outright crap makes more money than anything even slightly innovative.
