I'm used to being dropped in without explanation. It's actually something I like about JRPGs, that you find out about the world gradually. But I was pretty much unable to listen to or read what anyone said after the opening narration -- or even during it -- because the narrator is Anders. XD. The voice actor uses a slightly different, younger voice for Shulk, so I've been able to separate them, but for a while I was feeling some pretty intense vertigo.
Now that I'm a little further into the game (very little, I got sidetracked by sidequests), yeah, Shulk is obviously older than I first feared.
