I've been experimenting, trying to make a good, hot recipe based on very cheap ramen. Here's one I'm happy with.
I was originally trying to make a hot and sour version, but it kept hurting my tummy, though I usually don't have problems with the rice vinegar I was using. But I'm happy with this version; it's much more tasty than plain ramen, and it's good for clearing sinuses.
Ingredients:
One packet ramen soup (I use soy-flavored Maruchan)
Scant 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
Very scant 1/8 tsp white pepper
Teeny tiny bit of powdered ginger. It probably equates to about 1/32 of a tsp.
Instructions:
~ Prepare ramen according to instructions on the packet. Mix in spices. Stir well.
The hotness in this builds gradually, and you will want a cold drink by the end. If you have high tolerance for heat, or want your sinuses cleared NOW, try doubling the spices, but be especially careful with the ginger. It can sneak up on you.
