Yeah, I took a few volleyballs to the chest. Bella's problem is that she literally will not play any sport for any length of time without hurting herself and others.
Meyer seems trapped in her own adolescence (and I can't believe I'm only three years younger than her). But she doesn't seem to know how high schools actually work. According to Wikipedia, she attended a public high school, but it sure doesn't seem that way from her writing.
