Twilight, Chapter Four: Another Headache Coming On (p.81-82)
Content: mental illness, destruction of someone's property because he won't be her friend, manipulation, mind games, emotional abuse, smug condescension
When Bella goes to school the next day, she parks on the other side of the parking lot from "the silver Volvo" (81).
I didn't want to put myself in the path of too much temptation and end up owing him a new car.
There are so many pointless words in that sentence. But the reason I quote it is to show the kind of person Bella is. She's not joking. She has to take action in order to prevent herself from ruining someone's car. Edward is a douche, but he hasn't physically hurt her, and he did save her life. Plus, Bella was just thinking last night about how "perfect" Edward supposedly is, and how much she wants to be with him. And yet she wants to smash his car. This girl needs serious help.
Bella drops her keys. Edward picks them up extremely quickly. She looks up and he is leaning against her truck. He said yesterday he didn't want to be friends. This boy is seriously bad news.
Bella asks Edward how he "appear[ed] out of thin air."
He responds, "Bella, it's not my fault if you are exceptionally unobservant."
What the fuck?! Look. Having a dangerous, snarky romantic hero is fine. But this nauseating crap is not fine! Edward's jerking Bella around and he's insulting her and lying to her! If he doesn't want to be found out as a vampire, he could move normally, but no. He has a reason for moving this quickly, then insulting Bella horribly WHILE LEANING AGAINST HER TRUCK after he said he didn't want to be friends. And the reason is that he's an abusive douchewad.
Bella looks away from him. She says her thoughts are "tangled," but I can't tell in the context if that's because of Edward's manipulations and insults or because of his prettiness.
Bella asks him why he blocked her in last night. The victim has been hooked. Instead of walking away, she's continuing this conversation. Edward "snicker[s]" that he did it in order to force Bella to be stuck there while Tyler asked her to go to the dance. So he did it to force her into a romantic situation with a boy without her consent. Bella's rightfully outraged and wants to hit something. She claims she's not normally a violent person, which is a lie. She doesn't normally do violent things, but she has violent thoughts all the time.
Bella asks Edward if he's trying to irritate her to death "since Tyler's van didn't finish the job" (82). Edward snaps to furious and calls Bella "utterly absurd." She finally walks away. But stops when he tells her to wait. At which point he admits what he said was rude, but claims that it was also true.
I have a question. Does Edward spend all four books see-sawing between snickering and smirking and generally being a smug, condescending asshole on the one hand, and being utterly furious on the other, and insulting Bella the entire time? Because if so, I don't know if I can even finish this one book. I don't think the amount of hatred I feel toward Edward and, by extension, his creator, can be healthy. Justified, yes: healthy, no.

The amount of love I feel toward your commentary on the books is healthy for me, but you should definitely put your own health first if your hatred for Darling Edward is more of a bitter unpleasant bile than a juicy steak of justified sarcasm.
Bella is a jerk. Wanting to vandalise people's cars because they don't want to be your friend is not nice at all.

Also, Meyer thinks Edward is the perfect guy! I don't understand any of it.
