I think I disagree with her about the importance of rules for writing (beyond grammar), but I completely agree with her conclusion. And like her, "I was unprepared for how poorly crafted the saga is." I find it odd that little criticism of Twilight I've seen dwells on how terrible Meyer's writing is. Criticisms of the plot, the characters, and the supposed message are common -- but honestly, the more of this book I read, the less I understand of any of those things. The writing is so horrific, it obscures everything else. No wonder people disagree so much about these books.

I haven't met Alice yet, so I haven't seen that sentence yet in the books. When I saw it on my computer screen, I made a noise that scared my cat.

I think it comes down to two things. One, a lot of people feel more strongly about the story issues than the writing issues; two, it's so much easier to remember specific examples of Edward being possessive or a dick than it is specific examples of terrible writing, imo.

But yeah, it's some of the worst writing I've come across and that Tumblr is awesome.

Yeah. And of course I haven't gotten to the worst parts of the story yet -- but then, from what I can tell, the writing gets worse later too.
