"Anita thinks that Richard is so handsome, why would he want Ellen? Because looks are all that matter, at least in men."
This says so much about the Anita Blake books, and why she always needs her woobies to be ostracized. After all, if such hot men weren't openly discriminated against, what need would they have for her?

The frightening thing is that I think that IS her thought process.

"Richard points out that, “Ellen is willing to try and let me keep you, Asher, and Jean-Claude in my life, Anita. That’s a lot" (16). That's too much, as far as I'm concerned, because Asher, Anita, and JC are all terrible people."
*cracks up*

"You have been incredibly rude this whole time, and Ellen apparently just reached her breaking point -- long after I would have, by the way."
Long after anyone would have.

"ELLEN is the pain in the ass? ELLEN? Anita's the one who's been unbelievably rude, jealous, dismissive, and downright nasty from the very first. Because Anita is not poly. Anita wants a harem."
Precisely. I think she only jumped on the poly train because it sounded a lot better than "harem-owner".

"You have been the first from the first second you saw Ellen or even before, Anita, and you know it. And now you're pretending to be all innocent, trying to make Ellen the bad one for being bothered by your blatant violation of manners. You do not get to define social norms for everyone, Anita."
Oh, of course she does! She's the sainted Anita Blake, and she knows How Things Should Be better than anyone else.

"This is really sounding like a real conversation that LKH had with someone now. Because Ellen is completely right. This exact point is when I think "Ellen" left the restaurant and "Richard" followed her irl."
:\ Cannot unsee.

"Love = finding someone "yummy", i.e. handsome. Anita has the depth of a teaspoon."
Insult to teaspoons. And this just confirms that hotness IS everything good about characters in Anita's eyes. Not just 'They're good, therefore hot', but 'They're hot, therefore good'. Wow.

"Also, if this is based on something that really happened, LKH just told the real woman that she if she truly loved the real man, she'd have sat back down and continued to take everything LKH was dishing out."
DX You're completely right. This is beyond repulsive.

"Because anyone who is physically abused is "letting" someone beat them. Go bathe in Legos, LKH."
Insult to Legos. Hot sauce, perhaps. Very hot sauce.

"Anita is still kind of embarrassed about playing out her rape fantasies, and this is not Anita, this is LKH. Anita actually rapes people and is actually raped all the time: Anita's life *is* the rape fantasy. I don't know if a rape fantasy can have rape fantasies."
It's so wrong, but I'm laughing at that line.

And I think it makes sense in that those are ACKNOWLEDGED rape fantasies. Anita's life is about supposedly-consensual raperaperape. Therefore LKH feels guilty about ADMITTING to rape fantasies.

"Also, thinking someone is abusive is far worse than thinking they're boring."
EXACTLY. That line from Anita was just... really, really disturbing. Beyond disturbing.

"I feel very embarrassed. As if I'd just walked in on LKH taking a dump. Okay, um. LKH is married. LKH likes BDSM. LKH is saying, through Anita, that she doesn't feel BDSM and being married go together. I'm going to close the door and pretend I didn't see anything now."
Same here.

"If one does not have a life outside sex, one does not have a life worth the name."
*nod*

"But I guess I'm just a prude who's prone to call anyone who likes BDSM "perverted". I'll have to ask my husband to spank that out of me."
*snerk*

"And in this universe, I am there with her, because vampires in Anita's world are absolutely horrible and frankly I think anyone who would willingly have sex with one has severe issues. Not that anyone does ever willingly have sex with one, because there is no consent in this world."
:\ That's about right. And anyone who does try to maintain consent is abused out of it.

"Wait a damn minute. I swear I've seen EXACTLY this line in a spork of LKH's work."
You probably have, though I can't figure out in which scene. Bullet? There aren't that many male/male scenes in her works...

"Wow, was that ever nasty. I feel dirty from reading it. Also embarrassed. I don't think LKH meant to give all of us this window into her yucky psyche, but there it is."
I think everyone feels dirtier after reading it. :\ Perhaps "shutdown" refers to any lingering trace of shame or tact she might have felt before this?
