If I read one more article about how Americans are so stressed and gee whiz we can't figure out why so let's push meditation, the fallout will not be pretty.

We had a continuing education seminar on mindfulness in law and I just noped out SO HARD, you have no idea. Mindfulness is not going to save the legal profession and its adjuncts.

I suspect that if they actually wanted to stop and pay attention to the stressors, they would know what the causes were. But that doesn't improve productivity, or so we are told.

Mindfulness in law? I'm not sure I want to know what that seminar would look like.

There was a Washington Post (liberal media my butt) article published recently about how Americans are so incredibly stressed and no one could figure out why. They had quotes by people outlining very clearly why -- lack of healthcare, lack of job stability, not getting paid enough. But the article didn't engage with the quotes at all and was like, "but prices have remained stable so it can't be the economy so whyyyy!"

It was weird. I ended up with the impression that the person who wrote the article wanted to make the point that it really is because of how our monopolistic, anti-human economy is run, but this person works for Jeff Bezos and so they had to pretend to be clueless. But they still managed to get those quotes through.

That sounds like an interesting article to read, with two competing narratives so clearly on display.

But yes, I don't think it's any particular secret what the problem is, it's that the people who have to hear and do something about it are not interested at all in doing that. It might affect their profits and wealth, hell forbid.
