The fact that she was defeated by Anita because Anita likes having penii inside her and therefore feels bonds to her ambulatory dildos and the MOAD did not absolutely infuriates me. It seems to me that the MOAD only exists so that LKH can metaphorically punch every other woman in the face. Through all the millennia the MOAD has been around, only Anita is special enough to be a woman who enjoys sex and feels a true bond to the men she has sex with! And of course love can only be sexual! It's a big lie anyway, Anita blatantly neither enjoys sex nor feels a bond with anyone else.

I was raised Lutheran-Northern Baptist-Quaker, and there just weren't any positive feminine entities like Mary and other saints are in Catholicism. Everything was the father father father, every positive characteristic was identified as masculine and every negative one was characterized as feminine. Luckily I wasn't raised in a very religious household, but the entire culture around me was pretty religious and Protestant. I remember being taught in church that those Catholics were wrong for so many reasons, but one that really stuck out at me was that they "worshiped" Mary, and while there was no explicit "and she's a woman, ew", that was the takeaway message when everything else was so thoroughly masculist. Plus an evil mother-entity who is evil solely because she's a woman with power has been an incredibly common trope for a very, very long time.

And then there's that we're supposed to find the MOAD frightening because she's ~darkness personified ooOOOOooo~. Which sounds like a good thing to me, why am I supposed to find this scary? I'm re-reading duamuteffe's sporking of Affliction, and in it Anita claims she has never been afraid of the dark before, to which I say HA and furthermore HAHA.
